Enjoy creating colourful, patterned coiled basketry items using this ancient craft, using raffia, yarn and fabric and a variety of stitches from around the world.
Coiled basketry is an ancient and global craft, craftworkers traditionally used locally sourced plant materials to produce baskets for everyday use. We will explore coiled basketry stitches, techniques and patterns from around the world and using a variety of materials including raffia, yarn, fabric and rope we will create baskets, mats and/or sculpture.
Over the two days you will make at least two coiled basketry items and depending on the size you may need to complete them at home.
