This course is a hands-on introduction on how to create natural dyes, produce colourful textiles using natural materials, identify dye plants, mordanting, over-dyeing and tie-dye. Suitable for everyone who loves colour and fibre. No previous experience necessary.
Explore how to extract colour and transfer the dyes onto fabric and yarn. We will use natural materials including leaves, flowers, roots and bark and use of mordants, such as alum and iron, to help to fix the dye and increase the range of colours. We will make four different dye baths, an indigo dye vat, over-dye, tie-dye techniques, create a swatch of dyes and dye a range of items for you to take home.
